Rome, the Eternal City

小伙子 and his beloved wife visited Rome in October last year. It was the very first time for 小伙子 to visit Italy. Fascinated by his interest in Ancient History, in particular in Ancient Romans, in his early childhood, the visit to Rome has a special meaning to 小伙子...

Like devote Catholics who journeys to Rome to pay a visit to the Vatican, 小伙子's trip to Rome is like pilgrimage to the very heart of the Classical World that has gone since long.

小伙子 will start a new blog, soon to be disclosed, on Rome. He will write a whole series on Ancient Roman Civilisation. There are so many things to tell, so many to know, but so few who want to listen to the history of the Roman Empire.

Let 小伙子 makes clear to you: Rome, the ancient capital of Roman Empire form just one part of the story. Rome stands for the story of the West Empire that laid foundation to the West European civilisation.

But 小伙子 has also visited the New Rome the year before: Constantinople or Byzantium, the capital of the East Empire. The last was the surviving successor state of Roman Empire. Piles of stories are there to tell about the East Empire. So

where to start?

So 小伙子 wants to kick off with the beginning: at the Colosseum which stands for the might but also brutality of the Roman Empire...
